Foster & Adoptive Parenting

Becoming  a  foster  parent  is  a  life-changing  experience. There is nothing more rewarding than leading a child down a new path of positive change. You cannot change the world, but you can change a child’s world.

The primary goal of foster care is to provide short-term care  during   circumstances   in   which  birth  parents are  unable  to  provide  adequate  care for  their  children.  Foster care offers  protection  and nurturing to children in a family setting while facilitating family reunification or other permanent outcomes.

We  are  searching for foster parents that will embrace a child,  opening  their  hearts  as  well  as  their  homes and  provide  the  love  and  support  that  the  child  will need  to  cope  with  the  grief  and  loss  that  he  or  she has experienced.

Your Questions

Do I have to be married to be a foster parent?

No.  Single or married persons who have a genuine interest in fostering a child are encouraged to apply.

How long will the child live with me?

It varies from case to case, but fostering is always meant to be temporary. The primary goal of foster care is to reunify birth families whenever possible. The length of the child’s stay in foster care is determined by the Broward County Dependency Court and the lead child welfare agency ChildNet.

Can I continue to work and be a foster parent?

Yes,  you  can  work  full time.  Afterschool care and daycare are subsidized by the State.

Where do the children go to school?

The children attend the local public school in your neighborhood. If a special program is necessary, it is facilitated via the school system.

How is a child placed in my foster home?

Upon licensure, you will be given the opportunity to select a child profile that best matches your home. A careful matching and selection process occurs to pair a child with a family who can best meet that child’s needs.

Can foster care lead to adoption?

Yes. If parental rights are terminated and no relatives come forward, then the foster parents are given the first opportunity to adopt the child.

Will I receive financial assistance?

Yes. This will be discussed with you in detail.
