Healthy Start is a state-mandated program in place to decrease complications in pregnancy and at birth, and to reduce the occurrence of preventable death in infancy. It identifies pregnant women who are at risk for pregnancy and/or birth complications, or infants (birth to 18 months) who are considered susceptible to potentially fatal health concerns. Kids In Distress is just one of the many agencies and organizations that work together to administer the Healthy Start program, by providing information and links to community resources. Services offered to eligible families include parent education, nutrition counseling, breast-feeding information, education on child development and supportive counseling.
