KID offers an array of services geared to strengthening the family and enhancing the parenting experience. This boosts parents’ abilities and allows them to be the best parents they can be.

Services Provided: Comprehensive Behavioral Health Assessments (CBHAs) KID provides Comprehensive Behavioral Health Assessments (CBHAs) to any child in Broward County who has been removed from their home due to abuse and neglect and who has been in a shelter for a minimum of 72 hours. CBHAs may also be conducted on children in foster care or under protective supervision if the child is experiencing emotional or behavioral problems. The assessments are provided to Dependency Court Judges, the Attorney General’s Office, ChildNet, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and other involved service providers. Assessments are completed within twenty-four days of the referral in order to be available prior to Arraignment Hearings.
Multi-Assessment Team (MAT) Staffings Every day in Broward County, babies are born to mothers who used drugs and/or alcohol throughout the pregnancy, and the children are subsequently born “substance-exposed”. KID coordinates Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT) staffings for these babies, up to 18 months of age and for children up to 3 years old. The team is composed of: Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center (CDTC), Spectrum, ChildNet, the Department of Health/Healthy Start, and Kids In Distress. Kids In Distress coordinates the meetings, and writes and distributes reports which ensure that every baby that is substance-exposed in our community will be provided with the care and oversight necessary to ensure that they are raised in a healthy and safe environment.
